Mixmag

Following his debut EP for Visionist’s Lost Codes label, Filter Dread comes with nine mutant grime miniatures (all but one under three minutes) for Sub FM stalwart Threnody’s imprint. The tempos vary, but all are connected by rhythms that take grime at its coldest and most disjointed, but smooth it back together by bathing it in reverb and echo. It’s all weird, mostly wonderful, and packs serious soundsystem punch. 8/10

Knowledge Magazine

Following stellar EPs for Visionist’s Lostcodes label and Epoch’s Egyptian Avenue, Filter Dread steps up to the Threnody-run UK trends imprint with the ‘Hidden Grime’ long player. Densely woven and often disorientating in its construction, the nine tracks on offer here draw upon tropes taken from traditionally dance floor connected sounds like jungle, dubstep and grime, conveying an otherworldly and immersive refraction of their forms.
